I cannot believe what they have...by Thomas
I have discovered the weirdest thing in USA.
I already knew the drive-thru McDonald's, as we have them in France, for the people too lazy to get out of their cars, sit and take the time to eat. I also have seen the drive-in cinema, which I admit is fun!
But I never knew and would have never ever imagined their could be other kinds of drive-thru's...drive-thru banks, drive-thru pharmacy, drive-thru dry cleaner, drive-thru movie rental, drive-thru coffee shop, or drive-thru for your oil change.
If you consider that most of the people drive wherever they go, even a mile away, I start to wonder if Americans aren't allergic to walking.

Oh my goodness, I haven't been back in awhile, I've never seen a drive through liquor store, now that would be dangerous...I'll have three bottles of bordeaux to go...
Whoa, Thomas, you better not come back to France then, you can find most of those things here too. Even my small town has a drive-thru pharmacy and a drive-thru bank.
A larger town near by has a drive-thru coffee shop, and there's even a drive-thru boulangerie in Paris! And what about all the automatic video distributors that you find in parking lots, at the supermarket, etc? I'd consider that to be the same as drive-thru movie rental...though at least in the US you don't get charged more if you return it the next day and not only 3-4 hours later!
Oh yeah, drive-thru daquiri stands in New Orleans, and drive-thru wedding chapels in Las Vegas - now that's depressing!
Sam, I left France end 2004, and I have never seen that before... I guess the fact I lived in the south west where we have plenty of sun, must help, I know we already do more outdoor activities than in penguin land (understand here north of France - bordeaux being the border between north and south for me)
Thomas - yeah I do agree americans are just so lazy, especially when it comes to driving somewhere close to their homes. Your right on track, but I guess these things are starting to trickle throughout the world now... A shame!
Hello,
I live near Paris and i have never seen a "drive-thru..." other than Mac Do !
Good question! Well put!
It's all about convenience. Everyone is usually working 40+ hours a week, they hardly have time to do much else.
Ah, I really miss home sometimes. =o)
