American TV... by Thomas

Just a quick question.. is it just me or are there soooooo many ads for horror movies on american tv? - I am talking about gross movies, like texas chainsaw massacre the beginning, the hitcher, the messengers... you know these kinds of movies you don't really want your kids to even see the trailers!

It's not just you, but it seems that those ads are shown later at night...

thomas pointed out something to me that i had never noticed..we put more restrictions on sex and language sometimes in movies than we do on violence and guns....like we are saying....ooooh sex is bad, very bad....but violence and killing is not soo bad...

we compare alot of how movies are rated here to over there or any foreign country....very interesting it is!

yes!!! i am so glad you posted this because i was watching t.v. not too long ago and thinking this exact thing. i don't watch a lot of t.v. and i don't go to the movies often, but it seems that horror flicks are becoming increasingly prominent. it seems that there are a multitude of these movies, compared to good dramas. and that disappoints me. over-the-top special effects, in-your-face fright, and gore seem to be everywhere in movies. (signaling a serious decline of intelligence, in my opinion)

and i agree with you, kim. sexuality is so taboo here in america but violence seems to be esteemed to a ridiculous degree. have you ever seen ma vie en rose? there is controversy over why that received an R rating in America because it addresses sexuality (a young boy who believes he is a girl) whereas it didn't in France. the movie is not explicit but somehow, in America we treat sexuality as this dirty and unspoken thing.

here it is....

SEX IS BAAAAAD, IT CAN KILL YOU, STAY AWAY FROM IT....BADDDDDD

GUNS, MURDER, SLITTING THROATS...EH, NOT SO BAD, NOT A BIG DEAL...

last time i checked it was the guns that were killing our people, not the orgazms...(well i'm sure that happens once in a while;)

Well talking about the rating system in USA...why is "Arthur and the invisibles" (and the minimoys in french) rated PG???

But more seriously... fine it is just a trailer for a movie some will say - but if I am 6 and see a the trailer of "the messengers" for example - I surely will end up with nightmares / i remember my brother having nightmares for days after watching the scene of the baby being kidnapped in "the emerald forest"... so imagine a ghost that only kids can supposely see

It's a popular genre right now. Horror movie popularity comes and goes.

I couldn't agree more. Would I rather worry about children seeing someone naked or being murdered? Geez.............that's a brain twister huh?
